The Beta Phi Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) from Barton Community College at Fort Leavenworth will be holding a “Food and Needs” drive from May 11-21 in support of the Leavenworth Mission Community Store and Food Pantry.
Due to a lack of government subsidies, the pantry has struggled to keep donations on the shelves to help feed families in need. While they are also a store, the food bank provides food to many families free of charge. The PTK group from Barton plans to have multiple drives throughout the year in hopes of helping the pantry to continue to offer its services.
There will be a drop box located in the Barton office at Fort Leavenworth and at the Post Exchange.
The following items are being collected: non-expired, non-perishable food items that have not been opened; hygiene items such as deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste; baby items such as diapers, wipes and non-expired formula. These are all high-need items for Leavenworth residents.
PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges and symbolizes excellence in higher education. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join PTK. The PTK group at Barton sponsors local events and volunteers at others’ events.
