Story by Micah Oelze
When preparing to enter a confined space, safety is always on the forefront of a worker’s mind as they make sure every precaution and protocol are followed precisely.
Barton Community College will be offering an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space Certificate class from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 6-8 at Urban League of Kansas in Wichita. The class costs $599 per person and includes an OSHA Certificate of Completion, printed materials and refreshments. To register contact Occupational Safety and Health Program Manager Kimberly Simpkins at simpkinsk@bartoccc.edu or (785) 238-8550.
The course covers safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. Topics discussed will include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, ventilation techniques and more. These course materials and more will be put to work through workshops during the certification class.
Once students have completed the class they will receive an OSHA Certificate of Completion stating the student’s ability to identify permit and non-permit required confined spaces, reference the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard, conduct atmospheric testing and implement a permit-required confined space program for their employers or business.
