Barton’s History of Dance class will present "Dancing Around the World" at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in Studio 34, which is in the Sunflower Housing Unit at the southeast end of campus. This is a free event, but cash donations are greatly appreciated to support the Dance Department. Masks are strongly recommended for people who are unvaccinated and social distancing will be practiced. Visit shows.bartonccc.edu for streaming information.
Dance Instructor Danika Bielek said this event is a celebration of one of the oldest art forms, dance. This event is not a performance but an interactive presentation where her History of Dance class students will present and teach dances from their heritage as part of their class project.
“This is a full cultural experience!” she said. “The students were really interested to dig deeper into their diverse backgrounds to learn more about how their ancestors expressed themselves through movement. Now they are ready to practice their presentational and teaching skills with the public as they share this important piece of themselves with the community, and if that is not enough of an incentive to attend, refreshments will be served from the cultures represented! Bring your dancing shoes and be ready to learn, laugh and move!”
