Whether you want to explore welding as a career or are a DIYer wishing to add a valuable skill to your toolbox for projects, Barton Community College is offering night classes this spring to help aspiring pros or hobbyists meet their goals by providing comprehensive courses that cover MIG and TIG welding.
The Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 9 through March 1, and the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. March 4 through May 9.
Funding opportunities are available through Excel in CTE, the Promise Act, financial aid, and scholarships.
Executive Director of Agriculture and Industry Education Mary Foley said these classes can serve as a springboard for a career, but they can also be just as useful for someone who enjoys working on projects.
“We’ve had several people take these classes as a way to learn a new skill to help them out in their garage or shops when they need to weld for a project, but we also have people that have started towards a career in welding with these classes,” she said. ‘The great thing is that if you decide you want to get serious about welding and pursue a degree or certificate, these classes will count towards those credentials.”
