The Barton Community College Performing Arts Department has announced the cast for the 2020 Spring Musical, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” The show will be presented on March 6-8.
Barton Theatre Director Miller James said everyone is hard at work on the show and they welcome volunteers who are handy with a sewing machine, or needle and thread.
“Nearly 50 performers came out to audition,” he said. “We’ve got a cast of 33 and a crew of dozens with ages ranging from 6-70 ready to present this magical story. We are building many of the costumes from scratch, and we are looking for community volunteers to take a pattern, image and measurements home and do some sewing for us. Those in the community who are skilled could really have some fun with this, and we would love and appreciate the help.”

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella is the new Broadway adaptation of the classic musical. This contemporary take on the classic tale features Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It's Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” alongside a hilarious and romantic libretto by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane as well as some new characters, and surprising twists.
Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's “Cinderella” was twice re-made, first in 1965 for Lesley Ann Warren and then again in 1997 featuring Brandy and Whitney Houston. The original Broadway production opened in 2013 and starred Laura Osnes, Santino Fontana, Victoria Clark and Harriet Harris.
