Barton encourages potential students to let their “GPA Pay the Way” through the Barton Bound scholarship. The tiered program awards first time college students who graduated from a Kansas high school based on their GPA or ACT score. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 1 (students graduating in December have a deadline of Dec.1).

There are three levels of awards offered: Excellence, Honor and Achievement awards.

Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher, or have an ACT score of 26 or higher, are eligible for an Excellence Award which covers student’s tuition and book fees.

Students with a 3.0-3.59 GPA or have an ACT score of 24 or 25 qualify for the Honor Award for a $1,000 scholarship.

Students with a 2.50-2.99 GPA or have an ACT of score 22 or 23 are eligible to receive The Achievement Award of $800.

Admissions Director Tana Cooper said the program is great because it provides assistance for a wide range of students.

“The Barton Bound Scholarship is great because even if your GPA isn’t as high as you had hoped by the time you’re ready for college, you can still qualify for substantial scholarship money,” she said.
