What is the FAFSA?

Students can apply for Federal financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There is no charge to have an application processed. Check out important FAFSA dates or follow the step-by-step guide on completing the free form for Federal Financial Aid on the studentaid.gov website

Important FAFSA Information

Many questions can arise when completing an application for Federal Student Aid. Consider the following information when applying for Federal Financial Aid.

What can students do to prepare?

Students are encouraged to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID in their StudentAid.gov account at least 2-3 days before beginning the FAFSA. Review the FAQ section below to find out what information should be gathered before starting the FAFSA.

Dependent Students

For the 2025-26 FAFSA:

  • FSA ID username and password
  • Social Security card
  • Permanent Resident: Permanent Residency card (you will need your Alien Registration Number)
  • Driver's license if applicable
  • 2023 W-2 forms
  • 2023 federal income tax return
  • 2023 untaxed income records
  • Current bank statements (to report the amount you have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
  • Value of investments
  • Net value of current business or farm

Your parent(s) will need:

  • Their FSA ID username and password
  • Their 2023 federal income tax return
  • Their 2023 untaxed income records (like child support received)
  • Their bank statements (to report the amount they have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
  • Value of their investments (do NOT include their retirement accounts)
  • The net value of their current business, farm, and investment records

Independent Students

  • FSA ID username and password
  • Social Security card
  • Permanent Resident: Permanent Residency card (you will need your Alien Registration Number)
  • Driver's license (if you have one)
  • 2023 W-2 forms
  • 2023 federal income tax return
  • 2023 untaxed income records
  • Current bank statements (to report the amount you have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
  • Value of investments
  • Net value of current business or farm
  • If you are married, your spouse will also need the same information as above

The federal deadline to apply for Federal Title IV funds is June 30 of the award year.  The deadline for the 2025-26 FAFSA is June 30, 2026.
