Barton Community College art students work will line the walls of the Shafer Art Gallery during the BCC Student Art Exhibit April 20 through May 5.
There will be a reception and awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 20 which will include a juror’s talk and refreshments.
Shafer Art Gallery Director Dave Barnes said the student exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain experience as professional artists.
“The BCC Student Exhibition is an opportunity for Barton art students to display the fruits of the hard work and discipline involved in the process of creative production,” he said. “This is a resume-building exhibit in a professional venue and will hopefully encourage students to fearlessly pursue their artistic careers and interests.”
Barton Art Instructor Bill Forst added, “It’s a chance for the public to see the great talent present in their community.”
Ron Michael, Director of the Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, will serve as judge and display some of his recent studio work. Michael makes sculptures, vessels, disks and drawings inspired by the landscape, soil and geology of Central and Northcentral Kansas. He will discuss his choices for the winning pieces with attendees.
The Shafer Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is always free.
