The Adult Healthcare program offerings include Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Medication Aide, Certified Medication Aide Update and Certified Nurse Aide Refresher. These courses are approved by Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). Outside Testers

Testing for CNA is the first Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. If you have already been in contact with KDADS, please complete the form and push submit.

Please call the business office at (620) 786-7463 to pay the $25 proctoring fee and you will be placed on the next monthly testing date.

One week prior to the testing date, you should receive an email with a ticket for the test. If you do not receive this, please contact the Adult Healthcare department at (620) 792-9266.

 Fall 2024 Class Schedule 

**All classes are tentative, pending state approval and student enrollment. Clinicals may not be held in Barton county. Class schedule changes or updates may occur at the discretion of the instructor. COVID-19 continues to present challenges, clinical changes are possible. Please refer to Barton's COVID-19 Healthcare Statement as to how the federal vaccine mandate impacts students. 

An active CNA certificate is a required pre-requisite for the Barton Nursing Program. Complete a Change of Major Form.

Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. The sizes of classes are limited. CNA clinical groups max out at 10, CMA clinical groups max out at 6. Courses are scheduled upon student interest and instructor availability. Please check back frequently for updated class schedules.

Payment: Due at the time of enrollment. Financial aid ineligible.

Books: Books are required the first day of class and not included in tuition and fees. They can be purchased through the Barton bookstore, either in-person or online. Follow the links below for book information.

Occupational Outlook and Earnings

The CNA course is a 90 contact hour course that prepares students for the state certification exam. It is approved and regulated by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). CNAs provide direct care to patients in hospitals and residents of assisted living centers and long term care facilities.  Students must turn 16 years of age prior to the KDADS test date.

Certified Nurse Aide Refresher

The CNA Refresher course is a 15 contact hour course that is approved by KDADS to reactivate a Kansas CNA certificate that has expired. The course consists of a brief review of the KDADS CNA curriculum guidelines as well as student demonstration, in the lab Environment of the 18 skills from the Kansas Nurse Aide Task Checklist.

Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Course and Update Course
Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Course and Update Course

The CMA course is a 75 contact hour course that prepares students for the state certification exam. CMAs administer medications to residents in assisted living centers, and long term care facilities. A Certified Nurse Aide certification is a requirement for CMA training. Students must be 18 years old to enroll.

Certified Medication Aide Update

The CMA Update course is a 15 contact hour course that is approved by KDADS to meet the requirement for Kansas CMA continuing education that must be completed every two years. This course is designed to provide the student with a review of basic knowledge and introduction of new medications and their safe administration.
