Inspired by actual events, “8 Days” tells a story about 16-year-old Amber Stevens who goes missing. She is forced into the world of sex trafficking while her family and community fight to get her back.

Barton will host two showings of the film, March 12 at 6 p.m. in the lower level of the Student Union and March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Advocates from the Family Crisis Center will be present at both viewings with information and available to speak with individuals.

Barton’s Title IX Coordinator Cheryl Brown said she believes this film brings to light a serious issue facing students in high school and college. Human trafficking happens across the nation in both big and small towns. She said teenagers and young adults should be aware of the issue and how traffickers prey on them.

“We want to show this film at Barton because we want to alert students, employees and parents to the dangers posed by the traffickers,” she said. “We want them to be aware of these people.”
