Barton will host a presentation by Megan Rohleder of the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka that will highlight Kansas historical documents and publications from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 20. in the Cohen Center in the Barton Library. A light lunch will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
Barton History Instructor Linda McCaffery said the Cohen Center houses a very interesting and valuable collection.
“We are very fortunate to have the Senior Archivist, Megan Rohleder, from the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka as our speaker,” she said. “Some of the materials in the collection are common and found in most school and public libraries, but there are also rare and even one-of-a-kind books and papers. The uniqueness of the Cohen Collection is having access to such a large collection. The collection is not static as it continues to grow with materials purchased and donated.”
The Center is dedicated to preserving resources in Kansas and inspiring research in Kansas history. It is located in the southeast alcove of the Barton Library and houses a large collection of Kansas materials. The presentation will talk about the importance of preserving Kansas History through books, documents and individual memories through oral histories, letters and diaries.
