Meteorological spring arrived March 1st and astronomical spring this week. Living in Kansas we all know spring here is characterized by fairly dramatic swing in temperatures and precipitation.
Barton Community College will be closed March 29 and April 1 for Easter break. Barton's Center for Adult Education and the Shafer Art Gallery will also be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume April 2.
The Barton Foundation aims to enhance the Barton student experience with its 14th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot fundraiser from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., April 21 at Camp Aldrich, 884 NE 110 Ave. in Claflin. The money raised is used for Faculty Mini-Grants, which Barton faculty members can use to enhance student learning experiences in their classrooms. The Foundation has awarded $152,459 in mini-grants to date.
While many children grow up in a supportive and nurturing family environment, that is not the case for all children, and Barton alum and Hoisington native MyKayla Burgess has found meaning in providing comfort and stability to those less fortunate as a social worker.
Potential students will have an opportunity to gear up for the fall semester during Barton’s popular “Enrollment Day” sessions, which start on April 16 and will continue throughout the summer.
The last two columns discussed what Regenerative Agriculture (RA) is and how it is implemented. In addition to helping restore the ecology while helping producers agronomically and economically, RA can help mitigate climate change for the producer and in general.
Barton Dance Theatre’s will host another “Dancing with the Cougars” fundraiser class featuring a salsa and Latin dance class from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. March 19 in Studio 34, and all proceeds will go to support Barton Dance Theatre's trip to dance in New York City.
The U.S. Department of Education is rolling out changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as part of the FAFSA Simplification Act for the 2024-25 academic year, and the Barton Community College financial aid office is trained and ready to help families through the transition of this vital piece of the enrollment process.
Barton Community College will have no classes during its spring break from March 11-15. Barton’s offices will remain open through March 13 but will be closed March 14 and 15. The college’s regular class schedule and business hours will resume Monday, March 18.
