Tragedy struck at the age of 16, when she lost her father in a motor vehicle accident. The toll of the loss, compounded by dysfunctional home life and alcohol abuse, sent her down a dark path.

Barton Community College has released the 11 edition of its literary journal “Prairie Ink.”

The journal is intended as a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

The collection of fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction is open to submissions from Barton students, employees of community members who live in Barton’s seven-county service area and the Fort Riley, Fort Leavenworth and Grandview Plaza outreach locations.
