Sophomore Toni Reese of Hoisington is no stranger to adversity. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at the age of 13. She is the daughter of a single mother who was in the Navy through much of her childhood. However, she hasn’t let any of that get in the way of following her dream of becoming a private investigator.

Barton Community College’s annual literary publication, Prairie Ink, has begun accepting entries for its 11th edition. 

Editor Scott McDonald said the aim of the publication is to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

The editors are looking for the following types of original work to be considered for publication:  fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama, and graphic short stories.  They will be accepting submissions until April 1, 2020.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area.

Barton Community College has named 239 students to the President’s List for the fall 2019 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

Barton Community College has named 327 students to the Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

The Shafer Art Gallery will unveil the work of Jee Hwang, Assistant Art Professor at Fort Hays State University, with an opening reception for her exhibit Feb. 7 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. The reception will feature an artist talk and refreshments. Admission is free. The exhibit will run through Feb. 28.

Gallery Director Dave Barnes said those who see this exhibit will experience art that makes a statement for all levels of art enthusiasts.

The Barton Community College Performing Arts Department will host “Scholarship Day” auditions on Saturday, Feb.8 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Current or prospective students may contact the Music Department to set up a time to audition for music or theatre scholarships or performance awards.  Awards are available for performing arts majors and non-performing arts majors alike.
