The Barton Forensics team has been competing throughout the spring semester.  They have competed in four tournaments and have one remaining. 

2015 Border Wars Tournament

This tournament was held Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 on the Kansas Wesleyan University campus in Salina.  It was sponsored by Kansas Wesleyan University and Cameron University.

The Central Kansas Community Choir (CKCC) accompanied by the Barton Community College Orchestra, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 in the Fine Arts Auditorium on at Barton Community College.

This year the choir will perform “Gloria” by Bass, “De Profundis” by Robinson, “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and several more selections.

The Barton Community College Dance Team took home the region six championship trophies for the Team Dance and Hip Hop divisions in Iola Sunday. Mario Lao also competed in the solo division earning third place.

Eight Kansas community colleges competed in the Team Dance division and six competed in the Hip Hop division. There were 14 competitors in the solo competition.

The Barton Community College Foundation will kick off its Annual Academic Enrichment Fund Campaign titled “Changing Lives – One Gift at a Time” on March 1.  Lifelong area residents and supporters of the college Gary and Anna Burke will serve as honorary co-chairs for the month-long fundraising drive.

Barton Natural Gas Student, 29 year old James Mayes, is knee-deep in his coursework to become a member of the Natural Gas industry, but he has always had the desire to be on stage. He found a way to do both and is a cast-member for the upcoming Barton Theatre Spring Musical “Godspell.”  The musical is at 7:30 p.m. March 5, 6, 7 and at 2 p.m. March 8.

Mayes performed in a “Christmas Carol” as Bob Cratchit this fall and had experience in theater in high school.

The Shafer Art Gallery will host an opening reception for the “Harnessing Consciousness: Joel T. Dugan” exhibit from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 6.  The reception will be preceded by a live painting demonstration from 2-4 p.m. presented by Dugan, which will focus on the process of portrait work.

Shafer Art Gallery Director Dave Barnes said the narratives in Dugan’s work evoke the imagination.

Barton Community College’s Silver Cougar Club will offer a continuation course on Google Drive from 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays, March 4 – April 8, at the Center for Adult Education, 1025 Main St. in Great Bend.  The first course is not required to enroll in this course.
