The Barton Community College Performing Arts Department will host “Scholarship Day” auditions on Thursday, Feb. 11. Current or prospective students may contact the Music Department to set up a time to audition for music or theatre scholarships or performance awards. Awards are available for performing arts majors and non-performing arts majors alike.

The Barton Planetarium will feature movies utilizing the full-dome projection system throughout the spring semester. The Planetarium is located in the Science Building. Enter through the sliding doors on the north side. Admission is free.
Each movie will be followed by a live presentation by Barton’s Planetarium Director Dr. Tim Folkerts. The presentations will feature a tour of the night sky, hands-on activities or actual outdoor stargazing.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training Building.

While it’s too early to set in stone, it is certainly shaping up as a financially challenging year for crop and livestock producers. Crop prices, input costs, sluggish economies around the world, and many other factors will test the patience and skill of producers. This isn’t to imply input prices haven’t fallen but overall they haven’t fallen nearly as much as most crop prices.
The Welding Lab is full of state of the art equipment thanks to the generosity and cooperation of Barton’s industry partners and donors to the Barton Foundation. Barton’s industry-recognized welding certificate program began being offered in its entirety this semester.

Barton Community College will host a “come and go” open house and reception to showcase its new Adult Healthcare Simulation Lab Feb. 2 from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Technical Building, room T-119. A presentation is scheduled at 3 p.m. to recognize the longstanding partnership with St. Rose Health Center and to thank them for equipment and supply donations.

Barton Community College will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 18. Barton's Center for Adult Education and the Shafer Art Gallery also will be closed. Offices will reopen and classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Barton History Instructor Linda McCaffery will teach a course via Barton’s Silver Cougar Club titled “Age of Enlightenment,” 1:30-3:30 p.m. each Tuesday from Jan. 26 through April 5 in room F-129 of the Fine Arts Building.
The class will cover the splendor and paranoia of Louis XVI, the American and French Revolutions and the dictatorship of Napoleon. During this period, Spain crumbles and England rises to status as a world power, while the fledgling American Republic struggles to survive.
