The first Barton Community College Student Recital of the school year will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 24 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157.  The recital is free and open to the public.

It is important for people to protect themselves from online threats and Barton is offering three Cyber Security Awareness presentations at no cost to provide tips on what to do, what not to do and how to recognize malicious online content. The sessions are from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building in room F-30. The sessions are as follows; Oct. 24 is for the general public, Oct. 28 is for Spanish speakers and Oct. 29 is for business owners.

Barton Student Services will lead a campus-wide celebration nurturing positive mental health, depression awareness and suicide prevention from October 21-25. The featured event is a presentation at 6 p.m., Oct. 24 in the Fine Arts Auditorium by Michele Hansen (LPC, LMAC) and Jim Yoder (Wichita Support Group Facilitator). A suicide loss tribute performance by the Barton Dance Team will precede the presentation.

Editors of Barton Community College’s literary journal “Prairie Ink” invite the public to a launch party for the publication’s tenth issue from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in the Cavanaugh Room, in the Learning Resource Center, L116.

The come-and-go social event will include refreshments and live readings from some of the published authors.

The “Prairie Ink” is intended as a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training area. Free “I am Humankind” t-shirts will be given to all donors while supplies last.

The Barton Visual and Performing Arts Department will host its annual Sneak Preview Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 10 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

The event will feature performances by the Hilltop Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Prairie Winds Concert Band and Barton Dance Theatre to give the community a peek into what each talented group has in store.
