The Shafer Gallery will hold an opening reception on March 9 at 6:30 p.m. for its latest exhibit, Exegesis: Portraits of the Spirit, featuring works from Rev. Richard Vettel-Becker and Luis Mario Figueroa. The opening reception will feature gallery talks by the artists and refreshments for the attendees.

Barton Ceramics Instructor Bill Forst and his wife Ginger Mayfield will be exhibiting their artwork at the recently renovated Hutchinson Art Center until March 11. The exhibit is free to experience Tuesday-Sunday.
Forst and Mayfield jumped at the chance to display their work after being invited.
“We hadn’t had a major show of our work for a couple of years,” he said. “We snapped at the opportunity.”
Barton Community College honored employees in December and February who celebrated landmark years during forums. Employees recognized December 17 are shown below and February 18 recipients are to the right.

There really isn’t much to say regarding the continuing and deepening drought in our area. Although parts of Kansas did receive some snowfall, the overall pattern isn’t promising over the near term for any meaningful precipitation. Temperatures are a bit up and down but fortunately more on the cooler rather than warmer side through the coming weekend. Today, let’s discuss a different drought affecting the agriculture industry – a drought in the workforce.

Five students from Barton Community College in the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society were recognized as members of the PTK All-Kansas Academic Team during an award luncheon Thursday at the Ramada Inn in Topeka. Prior to the luncheon, inductees toured the state capital building with Barton administrators and instructors and visited with state legislators.
