The Shafer Art Gallery’s latest exhibit is “Biodiversity in the Art of Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen,” produced by David J. Wagner, L.L.C. It is the latest installment of The CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions Art and Science Encounter Series. The exhibit is scheduled for March 1 through April 18, with a public reception to kick off the exhibit at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 8.

Barton Community College will offer transitioning Fort Riley Soldiers, Veterans and family members with DOD ID cards, a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants.

The Hazardous Waste Worker Training (HWWT) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from March 18-29 at 100 Continental Ave, Grandview Plaza, which is just north of I-70 at exit 299.

The Barton Community College Theatre Department’s three performances of the late Neil Simon’s farce, “Rumors”, are set for 7:30 p.m. March 1 and 2, with a matinee at 2 p.m. March 3. Tickets are $5 at the door. Students are admitted free.

Barton Welding Instructor Wade Morris spent 35 years fusing metal as a pipeline welder, foreman and in various other roles before coming to Barton in the fall of 2018; he knows what it takes to be a good welder. Skill and technique are important technical proficiencies, he said, but the real basis of mastering the trade is found a little deeper.
